Dr. Alice De-Ling Ma, MD, FACP is a Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and serves as Fellowship Program Director for Hematology and Medical Oncology. Hanny Al-Samkari, M.D. is a classical hematologist and leading international clinical investigator in hemostasis, platelet disorders, and hemolytic anemias. Dr. Abramson earned his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City and a Masters Degree in Medical Sciences from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ulrickson specializes in cellular therapy on the staff of the Division of Cancer Medicine at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, AZ where he is the chief of the section of hematology. He completed residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and fellowship at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He is an adjunct associate professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson and at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix.

Dr. Gertz is the Roland Seidler Jr. Professor of the Art of Medicine and Chair Emeritus of the Department of Internal Medicine, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is a Master of the American College of Physicians. Undergraduate degree was awarded with highest distinction from Northwestern University graduating Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Gertz received his medical degree cum laude from Loyola Medical School in Maywood, Illinois and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha the medical honor society. He completed a 3-year medical residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and was voted Resident of the Year for 2 of those years. He completed training in hematology and oncology at the Mayo. He was awarded the Mayo Distinguished Clinician Award for his contributions to patient care. He served 1 year term as president of the Mayo clinic staff officers and counselors. he has served as chair of the division of Hematology and chair of the department of Medicine at Mayo Clinic Rochester. He was the first treasurer of the International Society of Amyloidosis and International Myeloma Society. He has authored over 800 peer reviewed publications and over 90 book chapters. He serves on the editorial boards of Amyloidosis, Acta Haematologica and Clinical Lymphoma & Myeloma. He is coeditor of Neoplastic Diseases of the Blood. In 2019 The Department of Medicine awarded him its lifetime research achievement award. In 2021 he was appointed chair of the approval committee for the Hematology certification examination for the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Hasserjian's clinical work and research focus on myeloid neoplasia. He has served on the Executive Committee of the Society for Hematopathology and on the Education Committee of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. Dr. Hasserjian is a member of the Pathology Advisory Committee for the World Health Organization Classification of Myeloid Neoplasms. Dr. Hasserjian is a dedicated medical educator, and director of the Hematopathology Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Robert Siegel, MD is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Hematology. He is a professor with The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. Dr. Siegel received his BA from Stanford University in 1973 and his MD degree from George Washington University in 1977. His internship, residency, and fellowship all occurred at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Siegel returned to GW as a faculty member in 1982, was promoted to associate professor in 1989 and full professor in 2000. Upon returning to GW, he spearheaded the effort to create an oncology unit, which was dedicated in the spring of 1984 and established the Cancer Conference and Tumor Boards in the same year. He was also instrumental in establishing a certified hospital tumor registry in 1985. Dr. Siegel's research initially focused on immune thrombocytopenic purpura and sickle cell disease. More recently, his publications have included studies that have refined the therapy of breast cancer and head and neck cancer. Dr. Siegel was among the first to document that young African American women are more likely to develop biologically more aggressive cancer compared to their Caucasian or Hispanic counterparts. Subsequent studies around the country have validated these results. He has supervised the medical school's second-year program in hematology since the fall of 1982, and has been director of the GW Board Review Course, the largest program of its kind in the country. In the past several years, 50-60% of all candidates who take the certification exam in hematology or oncology have taken the GW course. Dr. Siegel has been director of the Oncology Unit since its inception in 1983, chairman of the Cancer Committee since 1987, director of the Clinical Cancer Center since 1993 and director of the Katzen Cancer Research Center since 2008. He was the director of the Division of Hematology and Oncology from 1997-2015. He has been a member of the Institutional Review Board for 23 of his 25 years at GW, was chairman for 5 years and co-chairman for one year. He is also the former chairman of the District of Columbia's tumor registry advisory committee. Robert Siegel, MD, has been recognized for excellence in clinical care, and was given the Humanitarian of the Year award in 2005. In addition, he has been repeatedly recognized by Washingtonian magazine as one of the area's best physicians.

Dr. Ayalew Tefferi was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and migrated to the United States in 1982 after completing his medical school education at the University of Athens in Athens, Greece. Dr. Tefferi received his Hematology training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN before joining the staff at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Division of Hematology in the Department of Medicine. He has been a full professor in Hematology and Internal Medicine since 2001. Dr. Tefferi is primarily engaged in direct patient care and sees patients every afternoon. His clinical and laboratory interests focus on myeloid disorders including polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, myelofibrosis, chronic myeloid leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, acute leukemia, eosinophilic disorders and systemic mastocytosis. He also serves as division resource for anemia, porphyria, hemochromatosis and hemoglobinopathies. Dr. Tefferi’s academic and research achievements include over 1000 publications including books, book chapters, original articles, reviews, editorials, letters, and abstracts. Dr. Tefferi serves as associate or section editor for the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, Leukemia, American Journal of Hematology, European Journal of Hematology, and Hematological Oncology. He is also in the editorial board of several other journals including Blood, Cancer, Leukemia Research, Acta Haematologica, and Leukemia and Lymphoma . Dr. Tefferi has given more than 700 national and international invited lectureships and serves as faculty for the annual Hematology and Oncology Board review courses at George Washington University in Washington DC, Harvard in Boston MA, and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston TX.

Dr. Kantarjian is professor and chair of the Department of Leukemia at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he is also the Samsung Distinguished Leukemia Chair in Cancer Medicine. He is also a non-resident fellow in health policy at the Rice University Baker Institute. Dr. Kantarjian has received several prestigious honors and awards including the 37th Jeffrey A Gottlieb Memorial Award (2012), the John Mendelsohn Lifetime Scientific Achievement Award (2008), the Joseph H. Burchenal Memorial Award (2013),the Charles A. LeMaistre, M.D. Outstanding Achievement Award in Cancer (2014), and America’s Top Doctors, Castle Connolly Medical (2003-present). He was also selected the top Castle Connolly National Physician of the Year Award for Lifetime Achievement (2014) and the ASCO David A. Karnofsky Memorial Award for lifelong contributions to leukemia research and patient care (2023). Dr. Kantarjian’s research focuses on translational-clinical developmental therapeutics in leukemia. In the past four decades, he has made several contributions that improved prognosis and survival in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (tyrosine kinase inhibitors, e.g. imatinib, dasatinib, nilotinib, bosutinib which improved the 10-year survival from 20% to 90%), in acute lymphocytic leukemia (HPER-CVAD regimen and its derivatives which improved cure rates from 20% to 60+%), the discovery of decitabine for the treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome, and of clofarabine for the treatment of leukemias, among others. His research and collaborations were the basis for the FDA approvals of over 20 drugs in leukemia. He is an author on over 2,000 peer-reviewed publications.
